Below is how Catholic Charities Job Services Unit employed hundreds of inner-city homeless individuals and became a national model for moving people from welfare to work.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, Job Services Unit is an example of a well-led team. With four VISTA volunteers and a $20,000 United Way grant, this group was transformed into a national model of moving homeless and inner-city adults and youth off the streets and into employment. In three years over $1.4 million dollars of foundation, corporate, and government grants were generated to hire a 23 person full time staff. The United States Department of Labor granted this group the largest grant in the nation and designated this effort a model program. Hundreds of unemployed homeless individuals were taken off the welfare roles and became tax-paying citizens.
